Should I mix and match new dust collector filters with old ones?
Avoid mixing new and old filters to prevent imbalance and premature failure.
It is not recommended to mix and match new dust collector filters with old ones. Seasoned filters, which have been in use, operate at a higher efficiency due to the dust layer that has built up on and within the filter media over time. New, unseasoned filters, on the other hand, offer less resistance to airflow. Airflow naturally seeks the path of least resistance, which means it will pass through the new filters more than the seasoned ones. This imbalance can cause the new filters to become overloaded, potentially leading to premature failure and reducing the system's overall effectiveness. It is recommended to always preform complete unit filter changeouts.
