# What is NFPA 654?

## Comprehensive Safety Standards for Combustible Particulate Hazards

NFPA 654, titled *Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids*, is a key safety standard developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). It provides comprehensive guidelines for identifying and mitigating fire and explosion hazards associated with combustible particulate solids, such as dust, fibers, and fines. The standard addresses critical safety measures, including hazard identification, dust control systems, facility design, fire protection equipment, and employee training. NFPA 654 applies to a wide range of industries, including chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, and plastics manufacturing, where combustible particulate materials are present.
